Adams sneaks out win in Nanaimo

image002 2Nanaimo, British Columbia ( – The weather was the story at the 2014 Nanaimo Men’s Amateur Championship this year which was played Aug. 7th, 8th, and 9th at the Nanaimo Golf Club. This year’s tournament hosted 208 amateur golfers from around Vancouver Island. The 6,700 yard track from the championship tees is a tough test not only for the average golfer but for the low handicapper as the golf course has a lot of heavy rough that challenges your game if you’re not in the fairway.

After the final putt was holed Saare Adams of the Victoria Golf Club was crowned the winner. Adams, won the Low Gross with a three day total of 217, winning by a stroke over Brayden Erickson of the Pheasant Glen Golf Resort. Finishing in third place was Brodie Williams who was only two shots back of Adams at 219. Rounding off the top five low gross were two Nanaimo Golf Club members Kristian Harowych finished in fourth place after a three day total of 222, while Al Jensen was hot on his heels and at 223.

The Nanaimo Men’s Amateur Championship is always a one of more popular amateur tournaments on Vancouver Island and has been a staple on the local Vancouver Island tournament schedule for years. Every year the field and quality of talented players grows and this year was no exception.

“Its one of the best amateur tournaments by far, and the value is amazing along with a great prize table. The course is always in great shape, and the food is delicious. This years field was the best we ever had, and a lot of quality players made it very competitive. Things were interesting till the last putt dropped, and congrats to Saare Adams from Victoria Golf Club on winning the Naniamo Men’s Amateur,” said Nanaimo Golf Club’s General Manager Ash Chadha.

The Low Net title went to Jake Bouthiller with a score of 208. Second place went to Nanaimo Golf Club member Brian Ranger who walked off the golf course after his second round with a three round total of 212. There was three way tie for third in the Low Net category with John Hough Sr. of the Victoria Golf Club, and Mike Korney and David Lindbald of the Nanaimo Golf Club finishing the tournament with a net score of 214.
