(ISN) – Montreal, August 15, 2014 – One day after reaching his sixth Masters 1000
quarter-final of the season, Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON) avanced to his second
semifinal on Friday at the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati, Ohio. Raonic
made quick work of Italian Fabio Fognini 6-1, 6-0 to repeat his performance in Rome
earlier this year.
Raonic posted his first victory over Fognini in 2013 as Davis Cup. Today, the world
no. 7 needed just 57 minutes to defeat the no. 1 Italian. He broke serve six times
and saved all seven break points he faced on his own serve. Raonic won more than
double the points Fognini won, who was never in the match.
In Saturday’s semifinals, Raonic will face the winner of the quarter-final match
between Swiss Roger Federer and Brit Andy Murray. The match will be played tonight.
