After tonight’s contest, the Tigers will conclude the trip with a return match at Carleton (Aug. 20). The Tigers posted a 24-10 overall record last year, including a 12-6 mark in the American Athletic Conference, where they finished fifth of 10 teams. Ranked No.19 , they fell 72-53 to No.21 UConn in the AAC quarterfinals but qualified for the NCAA tournament for the fourth consecutive year, defeating George Washington 71-56 before ending their season with a 78-60 loss to Virginia.
McGill, the two-time defending RSEQ conference champions, opened their 114th season on Aug. 12 with a 96-69 loss to the Indiana Hoosiers. The Redmen had a 22-11 overall record last year, including a 14-2 first-place finish in the RSEQ conference. Head coach David DeAveiro will miss tonight’s game as he just returned from an overseas trip where he guided the Canadian national cadet squad to a sixth-place finish at the FIBA under-17 world championship in Dubai, Aug. 8-16. Standing in as acting head coach is John Dangelas, currently in his fifth season with the Redmen. Team captain Vincent Dufort heads a young McGill training camp roster that features three seniors, 12 sophomores and six freshmen.
After tonight’s game, McGill has two other NCAA squads on their schedule, which includes the Loyola University Maryland Greyhounds (Aug. 26) of Baltimore, Md., and the Fordham Rams (Aug. 28) from Bronx, N.Y.
