Aug 26,2014(ISN) – NANJING, China – Philippe Gagné of Montreal won his second diving medal at the Youth
Olympic Games on Monday with silver on men’s 10-metre tower. Gagné was also third
on three-metre last week.

In Tuesday’s final, Hao Yang of China earned perfect 10’s on his last two dives to
run away with the gold earning 665.90 points. Gagné also nailed his five dives in
the final to complete an exceptional performance with 531.70. Rodrigo Diego Lopez
of Mexico was third at 512.75.

Gagné’s best dive of the night was his armstand dive in the third round for which he
garnered mostly 8.0’s from the judges. He also saw a series of 7.5’s for his final
twisting dive.

”I have to say I was expecting maybe a bronze but silver is great,” said Gagné.
”All of Yang’s dives are always good and I was trying to match them. I just
focused on one dive at a time and kept thinking about what I can do right instead of
what I can do wrong.”

Gagné’s coach Andrée Pouliot, says her pupil shows a lot of maturity for a
16-year-old.

”He knows that in the preliminaries it is necessary to dive well but that he has to
save his energy for the final,” she said. ”He does well when he is nervous. I
know he will do well when he goes up to the tower and just goes for it without
staying up there and thinking too much.”

Diving competition ends Wednesday with the mixed three-metre synchro event. Gagné
is scheduled to dive with Josefin Schneider of Germany.
