Top level Canadian beach volleyball teams headed to Halifax


(ISN) – August 27, 2014: The teams for this weekend’s Canadian National Team Beach
Volleyball Championship at SandJam Halifax, presented by Eastlink, are selected and
set to descend on the city this weekend.

From Friday August, 29 to Sunday August,31, the tournament will feature the top eight male and top eight female Canadian
beach volleyball teams, several of whom compete on the FIVB International circuit.

“We are looking forward to some high-quality matches in Halifax as the winners of
Nationals face the current Team Canada athletes,” said Ed Drakich, Volleyball Canada
beach High Performance Director. “This event will be the highest level of beach
volleyball played in Canada this year, and I expect every match to be compelling as
teams fight for the title of 2014 Canadian National Team Champion.”

“SandJam Halifax presented by Eastlink is an event unlike any other in Atlantic
Canada and a highlight of our short summer season,” said Derek Martin, President of
S|E|A, the event producers. “We are thrilled to host the Canadian National Team
Beach Championship for the first time east of Toronto, and showcase the best beach
volleyball athletes representing Canada.”

An area of the Halifax waterfront will be transformed into the temporary Eastlink
stadium complete with two Olympic-sized beach volleyball courts, stadium seating,

The Canadian National Team Beach Volleyball Championship, which has $10,000 in prize
money, will begin this Friday, August 29 with round robin games in the morning
session from 10am-2pm and then again for the afternoon session from 3pm-7pm. The
round robin portion will continue at the Saturday morning session from 10am-2pm with
quarter finals from 3pm-7pm Saturday afternoon. The Sunday morning session from
10am-2pm will feature the semi-finals in both the male and female divisions with the
consolation and finals occurring between 3pm-7pm that afternoon. All 12
quarter-final, semi-final, consolation final and final games will be live on
Eastlink TV.

The SandJam concert presented by Live 105 will take place on the Salter lot
following the afternoon session on Saturday, August 30th featuring The New
Pornographers, The Town Heroes and Neon Dreams.

SandJam Halifax is presented by Eastlink and produced by Sports & Entertainment
