VICTORIA- Vikes Nation and the University of Victoria Athletics and Recreation
department are excited to host the fifth annual ThunderFest from 12-4 p.m., outside
the UVic Student Union Building on Sept. 5.
ThunderFest provides the UVic student body a chance to kick off the varsity athletic
season, gain information about campus recreation opportunities and to find out the
various ways of getting active and involved through Vikes Nation. The afternoon is
intended for all students, staff and faculty members of the campus community.
ThunderFest will feature a live DJ spinning, bands playing on the roof of the SUB,
over 30 booths with give-aways and lots of games to play. Booths from departments
from all over campus will be present including UVic Co-op & Career Services, CARSA,
UVic Bookstore, fine arts, engineering and computer science, UVSS, UVic Associate
Vice President, CFUV, the Martlet and many athletics and recreation activations.
Come meet Vikes varsity teams, learn about Vikes Nation and the large variety of
Off-campus sponsors will also be on site including Bed, Bath & Beyond, Cadboro
Business Association, Original Joe’s-Tuscany Village, CIBC, Dairyland, Fuel VSN,
Maude Hunter’s Pub, Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, Pepsi, Sitka, Scotiabank, Skynet
Wireless, Thrifty Foods, the Zone FM, Canadian Cancer Society, Strathcona Hotel, and
With over 30 booths, many games, giveaways and some major prizes, it is the entire
campus’ opportunity to get involved and kick-start the 2014-15 year!
ThunderFest will also feature three $500 prize giveaways that can be won by filling
out the official ThunderFest passport, available from any Vikes Nation booth or
official volunteer. Winners of the prizes will be announced at the home-opener Vikes
soccer games against UBC later that night. One winner will be announced at half time
of the women’s game and the other two will be drawn at the men’s half time. You have
to be present at the game(s) to claim your prize!
Admission to both Vikes soccer games are free of cost for full-time students,
faculty, and staff when they swipe their UVic ONECard.
