Aug 28,2014(ISN) – Victoria, BC – The Victoria Royals are pleased announce the signing 1999-born
forward Ryan Peckford to a Western Hockey League Standard Player Agreement.
Peckford was drafted by the Royals in the second round, 31st overall, in the 2014
WHL Bantam Draft.
“Ryan is an intelligent player with great skill,” Royals’ General Manager Cameron
Hope said. “We are pleased to welcome Ryan and his family to the organization.”
The 5-11, 174 lb forward skated for the Parkland Athletic Club Saints of the Alberta
Major Bantam Hockey League (AMBHL) last season. The native of Stony Plain, AB
appeared in 33 games for the Saints and scored 60 points (28g-32a) to go along with
44 penalty minutes.
The Royals acquired the 31st overall pick last year in a trade with the Red Deer
Rebels that saw defenceman Brett Cote go the other way.
The Victoria Royals are also pleased to announce the signing of 1997-born
goaltender Evan Smith to a Western Hockey League Standard Player Agreement.
Smith spent the 2013-14 season with the Pikes Peak Miners U18 team of the North
American Prospects Hockey League. With the Miners, Smith posted a goals against
average of 1.95 to go along with a .921 save percentage in 13 appearances.
“Evan is a goaltender that we think has tremendous potential,” Royals’ General
Manager Cameron Hope said. “We are very happy that Evan has chosen to pursue his
hockey goals with our organization.”
Smith, a 6-6 netminder from Parker, CO, was listed to the Royals’ 50-man protected
player list in July of 2012.
