Aug 30,2014(ISN) – EDMONTON – The best Alberta adult club soccer teams will face off in Edmonton this
weekend where teams in 4 of the 14 divisions will try to seize the opportunity to
qualify for Canada Soccer’s National Club Championships this autumn. 71 teams from
across the province will be competing over the course of the long weekend with all
finals set to take place on Monday September 1.

After a very competitive and entertaining season, teams from the Alberta Major
Soccer League (AMSL) will be looking to either continue their momentum or seek a
fresh start in their bid for Nationals. In the men’s division, surprise AMSL league
champions Lethbridge FC will try to make history again with a first ever provincial
championship title. Edmonton Scottish, last year’s Provincial Champions and this
year’s runner up in AMSL will be eager to repeat and prevent a Lethbridge win.
Edmonton Northwest United will look to build off their championship season on the
women’s side with hopes of qualifying for Nationals after a four year absence. They
will be in tough against last year’s national champions Edmonton Victoria who will
be hungry for a fourth consecutive provincial title.

The Masters Major and Classics Major competitions which highlight male and female
players over the age of 35 will also feature as teams push for a spot in the Western
Canadian Masters and Classics competition being held over the last weekend of
September in Calgary. Last year’s champions Edmonton Green & Gold on the women’s
side and Edmonton Victoria on the men’s side will be keen to book their spot at the
regional competition, in particular, with it being on Alberta soil.

Alberta Soccer will be presenting AMSL league trophies and top goal scorer awards on
Friday August 29th at 9 PM at the Edmonton Soccer Association Complex (14940-142
St.) in addition to a special Award of Merit that will be handed out to a long-term
AMSL player from Lethbridge FC. Media are welcome to attend the trophy ceremony.
