Aug 30,2014(ISN) – Kennewick, WA – The Tri-City Americans dropped its preseason opener against the
Seattle Thunderbirds, 4-0, at Comcast Arena in the opening game of the Everett
Seattle jumped out to an early lead as Nolan Volcan scored less than four minutes
into the game. The Americans were outshot 8-6 in the first period and had three
penalties, along with a one-goal deficit heading into the second period.
The Thunderbirds got on the scoreboard again 13 minutes into the second period, with
Shea Theodore scoring to put Seattle up 2-0. Seattle scored again on the power play
with less than a minute remaining in the second period, as Ethan Bear put the puck
in the net to increase the lead to 3-0 after two periods.
Tri-City fought to get back into the game in the third period, but was unable to get
anything going. Seattle capped off the win with less than a minute left in the game,
as Nick Holowko tallied an empty net goal to end the game.
Tri-City was outshot 35-20 by Seattle in the game. The Americans were 0-for-3 on the
power play while Seattle was 1-for-7.
Eric Comrie got the start in net for Tri-City, stopping 16-of-17 shots in 31:20 of
work. Evan Sarthou took over in net after Comrie, making 15 saves on 17 shots.
Seattle goaltender Taran Kozun stopped all 20 shots he faced in the shutout win.
The Americans are back in action at the Everett Preseason Tournament tomorrow,
Saturday, Aug. 30, at 11:30 a.m., taking on the Portland Winterhawks at Comcast
Arena. Tri-City will finish the tournament on Sunday, Aug. 31, against the Victoria
