MAUI, Hawaii – Jon McKay of Victoria won Canada’s 14th and final medal at the Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships on Sunday with a silver in the men’s 10-kilometre open water race.
The 35-member Canadian team ends the competition with five silver and nine bronze.
Brendan Casey of the U.S. won Sunday’s gold in one hour and 58 minutes and 00 seconds finishing just one full second ahead of McKay.
Lach Colquhoun of Australia was third and Liam Desjarlais of St-Jerome, Que., fifth.
In the women’s 10 kilometre, Yukim Moriyama of Japan was the winner in two hours flat more than 13 minutes ahead of runner-up Grace Hull of the U.S. Victoria Mock of Victoria was seventh and Justine Rhéaume of Montreal was disqualified.
Canada’s other silver medallists this week were Danielle Hanus of Newmarket, Ont., in the 100-m backstroke, Matthew Ackman of Pointe-Claire, Que., in the 100-m breaststroke and Mary-Sophie Harvey of Trois-Rivieres, Que., in the 200-m individual medley.
Bronze medallists were Markus Thormeyer of Delta, B.C., in the 100-m backstroke, 200-m backstroke and 200-m freestyle; Alexandra Aitchison in the 400-m freestyle, Cameron Kidd of Brantford, Ont., in the 50-m freestyle, Peter Brothers of Victoria in the 800-m freestyle, the men’s 400-m freestyle relay (Thormeyer, Mitchel Ferraro of Edmonton, Ackman and Kidd), the men’s 4X100 medley relay (Thormeyer, Ackman, Nicolaas Dekker of Richmond, B.C., and Kidd) and the women’s 4X100 medley relay (Hanus, Kelsey Wog of Winnipeg, Jacomie Strydom of Edmonton and Harvey).
