Halifax, Nova Scotia: This past weekend, the top eight male and top eight female Canadian beach volleyball teams battled it out on the Halifax waterfront to determine Canadian National Team Beach Volleyball champions.
On the women’s side, Heather Bansley (Waterdown, ON) and Sarah Pavan (Kitchener, ON) finished with a win (19-21, 21-16, 17-15) over Melissa Humana-Paredes (Toronto) and Taylor Pischke (Winnipeg).
In the men’s event, Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter, both of Richmond Hill, Ontario, beat Alberta’s Ben Saxton and Chaim Schalk, also in three sets (23-21, 16-21,15-11) in Sunday’s final.
“Both the men’s and women’s finals showcased world-class beach volleyball,” said Volleyball Canada’s national beach team head coach, Steve Anderson. “Congratulations to all of the teams who qualified to play in the Sandjam ‘best of the best’ National Team Championships, and of course to the winners. And good luck to all of our Canadian teams competing in the last FIVB Grand Slam of the season later this month in Brazil.”
