Tyson Barrie signs two-year contract with Colorado Avalanche

Sept 4,2014(ISN) – Defenseman Tyson Barrie signed a two-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche, the team announced Thursday.

The contract is worth $5.2 million — $2 million for the 2014-15 season and $3.2 million for the 2015-16 season.

Barrie, 23, led all Avs defensemen with 13 goals last season.

“Tyson is a big part of the young nucleus of our team,” executive vice president of hockey operations Joe Sakic said in a statement. “He is a gifted young defenseman who brings a lot of offense. We are pleased to have him under contract and look forward to his contribution this upcoming season.”

Barrie was selected by Colorado in the third round of the 2009 Entry Draft. He has tallied 15 goals and 36 assists in 106 games in the NHL.
