Americans Take Down Ice, 5-4

Sept 5,2014(ISN) – Kennewick, WA- There were three lead changes in the game, but Parker Bowles’ second
period goal was the difference in a 5-4 Tri-City win against Kootenay in the
Americans’ opening game of the 2014 Red Lion Hotels Preseason Tournament at the
Toyota Center.

The Americans jumped out to a 1-0 lead 1:11 into the game, with Lucas Nickles
finding the back of the net. Kootenay tied the game eight minutes into the period on
a laser shot by Luke Philp, and the Ice took the lead on the power play 11 minutes
into the period on a Jon Martin goal.

Tri-City was able to tie the game three minutes later on a Brian Williams goal. Less
than four minutes later, Williams added his second goal of the game on the power
play to put the Americans back on top, 3-2. Kootenay tied the game once again, as
Ryan Chynoweth scored on a breakaway to tie the game at three after the first

Early in the second period, the Americans got back on top 1:32 into the second as
Vladislav Lukin bounced a shot off Kootenay goaltender Wyatt Hoflin, with the puck
crossing the red line for the goal. The Americans lit the lamp four minutes later,
with Parker Bowles scoring a goal to increase the lead to 5-3. Midway through the
second, Kootenay cut the lead to 5-4, with Philp notching his second goal of the
game to keep the Ice close heading into the third period.

The physical play ramped up in the third period as both teams fought for the
advantage. Tri-City had the 12-7 shot advantage in the third period, with Eric
Comrie fighting off all seven Kootenay shots to help the Americans hold on to the
5-4 win.

Physical play happened throughout the game, and it translated to 140 penalty minutes
between the two teams, including Tri-City’s 73 penalty minutes. The Americans scored
its first two power play goals of the season, going 2-for-4 on the power play, while
Kootenay only managed one power play goal in seven opportunities.

Eric Comrie got the win in between the pipes for Tri-City, stopping 25-of-29 shots.
Wyatt Hoflin made 34-of-39 saves in the loss for Kootenay.

The Americans are back in action in the 2014 Red Lion Hotels Preseason Touranment
tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 5, at 7:05 p.m., facing the Red Deer Rebels at the Toyota
Center. Kootenay faces the Portland Winterhawks in the afternoon game at 3 p.m., in
the fourth game of the tournament.
