Sept 5,2014(ISN) – For the second season in a row the Victoria Shamrocks will be battling the

Six Nations Chiefs for the Mann Cup. Last year the Shamrocks lost the

Mann Cup on their home floor for the first time since they lost to the Six

Nations Chiefs in 6 hard fought games at the then named Bear Mountain

This time coach Bob Heyes and the Shamrocks vow to make a little

history of their own by winning on Six Nations turf! No Shamrocks team

has ever won a cup in Ontario.

The 2014 edition of the Shamrocks is built to make history with a bigger,

tougher, faster lineup. They are the right mix of veterans and youth as a

result of the Chris Welch’s participation as GM in the draft back in January.

They have the right number of Ontario players who will know how to

handle the pressures of trying to win in Ontario. Corey Small, who tied

teammate Rhys Duch for the league scoring title with 76 points this

season, has led the team this year. Dhane Smith was a great addition at

the trade deadline and has led the rocks in playoffs scoring with 10 goals

and 31 assists in just 9 games. Tyler Burton was a leader on defence all

season long and dominated in the faceoff circle during the playoffs and

with picking up loose balls. Tyler Hass was on fire on transition during the

playoffs running the floor, setting the tempo of each game, scoring big

goals and getting key assists while dishing out big hits and dropping the

gloves when needed. Hass’s leadership on the floor made him the WLA

playoff MVP. Both Goalies (Matt Flindel and Cody Haggeldorn) are battlers

and should be able to handle anything Major Series MVP Six Nations’

Cody Jamieson throws at them. Jamieson led the major series playoffs

with a whopping 50 points (25 goals and 25 assists) in just 12 games.

Other players on Six Nations to watch are former Shamrocks star Jeff

Shattler who had 19 goals 27 assists for a total 46 points in 12 games and

Toronto Rock players Kasey Beirnes and Jessie Gamble who like Hass is

very fast in transition. Goalie Brandon Miller who stoned the shamrocks

last year is also expected to be the starter for this Mann cup. If the

Shamrocks set picks on Miller and make him flop they will succeed like no

other Shamrocks team ever has by conquering Ontario! My prediction

Shamrocks in 7! On a funny note to end my first Mann blog Coach Bob

Heyes was a goalie on the 1996 team that lost to Gary Gait and Six

Nations in 4 straight after game 4 Bob told me that in order for the

Shamrocks bus to leave the arena they needed a Ontario Provincial Police

escort! GO ROCKS GO! You can watch the Shamrocks games live at

Brown’s Social House on Goldstream Ave. First Game is tonight at 5pm

Pacific Time. If you can’t make it down to Brown’s check it out at
