Sept 6,2014(ISN) – Kennewick, WA- The Tri-City Americans took an early lead, then found themselves behind and in the end, were unable to come from behind in the third period, falling to the Red Deer Rebels 4-2 in Tri-City’s second game of the 2014 Red Lion Hotels Preseason Tournament at the Toyota Center.

Red Deer came out strong in the first period and outshot the Americans, 15-3. But Tri-City got on the board first, as Jackson Playfair bounced a puck off of Red Deer goaltender Rylan Toth and into the net on the power play for the lead. The Rebels came back to tie the game late in the period, as Kolton Dixon passed it to Wyatt Johnson at the side of the goal, one-timing a shot into the net to tie the game at one after the first period.

In the second period, Red Deer was able to take the lead on a goal by Scott Feser midway through the second period. The Rebels led in the shot department, 14-9, and carried the one-goal advantage into the third period.

The Rebels added to the lead in the middle of the third period, with Grayson Pawlenchuk scoring a power play goal to increase the lead to 3-1. The Americans had chances and fought to get back into the game, with Jackson Playfair scoring his second goal of the game to cut the lead to one goal. But the comeback wasn’t meant to be tonight, as Johnson scored his second goal of the game, an empty netter, with 16 seconds left in regulation to put away the game for the Rebels.

Penalties were a big story for the Americans in the last game, but not as much in this game. Tri-City had 29 penalty minutes, while Red Deer had 27 penalty minutes. Each team had one power play goal, with the Americans getting six power play chances to the Rebel’s five chances.
