Sept 6, 2014 (ISN) – THREE SECOND HALF GOALS SEAL HUSKIE WIN
Scoring three second half goals, the No. 6 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies
defeated the University of Calgary Dinos 4-1 in the opening match of the Canada West
men’s soccer season Saturday afternoon on Field 7 in PotashCorp Park.
Tied after the first half, Saskatchewan ran away with the game scoring in the 61st,
80th and 90th minutes to seal the win.
Striker Garrett Peters tallied the game-winning goal on a Brett Levis pass to the
inside in the 61st minute. Bobbi Nicholat found the net on the Saskatchewan third
goal after a Huskie keeper Michal Bandula kick landed in the box in the 80th minute
Levis added the fourth goal in the 90th dribbling around the Calgary keeper to send
the ball into the open net.
After a 15 delay due to a Calgary injury in the first half, the Dinos opened the
scoring on an own goal. The ball bounced off Saskatchewan defender Matthew Gillott
and by a diving. Bandula. Just a few minutes later in added time, Peters was hauled
down in the box. Striker David Brown capitalized on the penalty kick.
Bandula finished the match with six saves, while Brett Hunter stopped four for the
Dinos. Calgary outshot Saskatchewan 8-7.
The two teams will meet again Sunday at 2:15 p.m. on Field 7 in PotashCorp Park.
