(ISN) – September 7th, 2014 – Just one night after watching a lead evaporate to the Penticton Vees, the West Kelowna Warriors saw themselves evaporating their southern rivals lead at Royal Lepage Place.
The Warriors got on the board first at 4:39 of the 1st period, as Jonathon Desbiens buried a rebound frmo a Nick Rutigliano point shot.
Over 5 minutes later, Mitch Newsome would deflect a puck past Warriors starter Scott Patton to tie it up, and at 18:23, Lewis Zerter-Gossage would place a perfect shot inside the right post to give the Vees a 2-1 lead.
Just over 3 minutes into the 2nd fram, Liam Finlay, who last season played for the Okanagan Rockets, would slide one past Patton for a 3-1 lead.
The Warriors were resilient after that marker, as just 32 seconds later, Brett Mennear would go upstairs under the bar on a 3 on 2. Neil Aird picked up the lone assist.
The physical play picked up throughout the middle period, and at 19:48, Desbiens would drive wide on a Vees defender, and as Pentictons netminder Brendan Barry went down to stack the pads, Desbiens put one into the top corner once again.
The 3rd would see both teams play hard throughout, and at 15:50, Liam Blackburn got a stick on the point shot from Kyle Marino, and the puck fluttered high in the air and over Barry to give West Kelowna a 4-3 lead.
Just over a minute later, Desbiens would complete the hat-trick, poking a puck off the stick of Dante Fabbro and would go in all alone, snapping a shot blocker side past Barry to seal the 5-3 win.
