Canada West Football Players Of The Week: Blaszko, Ingram, Fabian


Calgary Dinos SB Brett Blaszko registered 198 receiving yards and a touchdown in
71-3 win over Alberta.

NEW WESTMINSTER, BC – The opening weekend of the 2014 Canada West football season
saw the Calgary Dinos, Saskatchewan Huskies and Regina Rams come out of the gates
with strong opening statements.
Brett Blaszko (Calgary), Mark Ingram (Saskatchewan) and Andrew Fabian (Regina) have
been selected the Canada West Football Players of the Week for leading their
respective teams in Week 1.

OFFENCE: #89 Brett Blaszko, Slotback (Calgary)
Third-year receiver Brett Blaszko was a key cog in the offensive juggernaut of the
University of Calgary Dinos that annihilated the Alberta Golden Bears 71-3 to open
Canada West competition this weekend.
The Burlington, Ont. native hauled in nine passes for a whopping 198 yards,
punctuated by a gorgeous 65-yard TD catch from Andrew Buckley. The 2012 Canada West
rookie of the year, Blaszko averaged 22 yards per reception and sits atop the
national leaderboard in receiving yards per game.
Blaszko and the No. 2-ranked Dinos, in search of a seventh consecutive Canada West
championship, head to Vancouver this weekend to take on the UBC Thunderbirds
Saturday afternoon.

DEFENCE: #6 Mark Ingram, Safety (Saskatchewan)
University of Saskatchewan safety Mark Ingram solidified the Huskies 44-24 season
opening win over the Manitoba Bisons snaring two interceptions in the second half.
The fifth-year Agriculture & Bioresources student forced the first turnover with
three minutes left in the third quarter intercepting the ball at the Manitoba 44
yard line. His second interception of the game came with just under two minutes left
in the fourth quarter. Ingram nabbed the ball at the Saskatchewan 43 returning it 25
yards. The play led to a Saskatchewan touchdown.
Ingram, a 2013 CIS All-Canadian, also led the Huskies with 5.5 tackles in the game.
The No. 10 Saskatchewan travels to Edmonton to meet the Alberta Golden Bears Saturday.

SPECIAL TEAMS: #71 Andrew Fabian (Regina)
University of Regina kicker Andrew Fabian was perfect in his Rams debut on Friday
night, hitting all four of his field goal attempts to help his team to a 33-23 win
over No.7-ranked UBC at Mosaic Stadium.
Fabian hit from 40, 36, 34, and 18 yards for the Rams and was also a perfect 3-for-3
on point-after attempts to score a game-high 15 points.
Fabian also handled punting duties for the Rams, finishing with an average of 40.3
yards per attempt including a key 37-yard punt late in the game that forced UBC to
start on its own 7-yard line trailing by seven points with just under two minutes
left in the game.
