OTTAWA (CIS) – Soccer players Amanda Boyle from WesternUniversity and Armel Dagrou from University of Quebec at Montreal(UQAM) are the ArcelorMittal Dofasco CIS female and male athletesof the week for the period ending Sept. 7, 2014.
Boyle, a second-year kinesiology major from Vaughan, Ont.,exploded for six goals in three contests, including all threegame-winners, to help the Mustangs improve to 5-0 in conferenceplay and move to No.
1 in the national rankings. The sophomorestriker tallied twice last Wednesday in a 4-0 win against Waterlooand once on Saturday in a 2-0 victory over Laurier, before scoringall three goals on Sunday in a 3-0 shutout against Brock. Boylecurrently leads CIS with 10 markers in five league matches.
Soccer players Mary MacDonald from St. Francis Xavier, LauraVeilleux from Sherbrooke and Jenelle Zapski from Saskatchewan werealso nominated for the women’s award.
Dagrou, a second-year sociology student from Montreal, scoredfour goals in two outings, including a hat trick and a game-winner,as the Citadins kicked off their RSEQ schedule with a hard-fought5-4 loss against nationally sixth-ranked Montreal and a 1-0 shutoutvictory over UQTR. In Friday night’s season opener, thetalented striker hit the back of the net three times but itwasn’t quite enough to lift his team past powerhouseMontreal. However, his goal on Sunday in Trois-Rivières wasall the Citadins needed to record their first win of the youngcampaign.
Soccer players Diego Padilha from UNB, Kilian Elkinson fromToronto and Marcus Johnstone from Alberta were the other malenominees.
