NBA star Roy Hibbert has once again followed in the footsteps of the Celtics’ Jeff Green and NBA Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing.
On Tuesday, the Pacers’ big man donated $1 million to his alma mater to go towards construction of the John Thompson Jr. Intercollegiate Athletics Center, an on-campus facility scheduled to break ground on Sept. 12.
Green donated $1 million on Aug.
The donation came on Thompson Jr.’s 73rd birthday and although he played for Thompson Jr.’s son, Hibbert was quite close with the legendary coach.
“I actually gave [Thompson Jr.] a call, and then we talked for a little bit today, wished him happy birthday,” Hibbert said. “He was a big part of my development at school. He always said what was on his mind. He was out pushing me to be a better player. Obviously he’s a legend.”
