DUBUQUE, Iowa — Host Loras defeated seventh-ranked Trinity 2-1 in the quarterfinals on Sunday evening.
Sixth-ranked Loras (19-1-3) advanced to the NCAA semifinals for the second consecutive year. Trinity, playing in its eighth quarterfinal round (the first since 2008), completed the season with a 21-3-1 record.
Tom Carwile provided the Tigers with a 1-0 lead by scoring an unassisted goal just nine minutes into the matchup.
Loras’ Alex Bradley evened the game with a goal in the 51st minute, followed by a header from Mike Pizzello seven minutes later. Carwile was given a red card in the 68th minute, and the Tigers had to play one man down for the rest of the game.
The Tigers kept plugging along, however. Yuri Ribeiro fired a shot in the 81st minute, but Loras was credited with a team save. Victor Araujo took a shot on goal in the 88th minute, with Duhawks goalkeeper Dylan Milkent recording his fourth save of the game.
Trinity goalkeeper Matt Cardone posted five saves in the quarterfinal round.
