Sept 11, 2014 (ISN) – The Victoria Cougars (1-0-0-0) host the Saanich Braves (0-1-0-1) in one of two
Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League games tonight.

A week after recording a 9-0 win over these same Braves, Victoria seeks its second
win in as many contests.
Rounding out the scoring last Thursday were Marino Somerville (3), Robert Zadra (2),
Howard Howden, Jake Stolz, Wade Johnson, and John Kretzschmar. Getting the start in
net was Anthony Ciurro who stopped all eight shots he faced.
The Cougars face an important weekend ahead. Following tonight’s game, Victoria
heads out on a two-game road trip that begins tomorrow in Peninsula before
concluding in Campbell River on Saturday.
Saanich limps into tonight’s game on a two-game slide following a 5-4 overtime loss
to the Westshore Wolves last night. Coming off their 9-0 loss to Victoria in a game
which they were pelted with 47 shots, the Braves squandered a three-goal third
period lead to Westshore.
Mackenzie Valentine, Kyle Smeding, Scott Henderson, and Evan Horvath scored for
Saanich who is also in the midst of a three games in three nights stretch.
Facing his former team, Nick Dueck made 40 saves in net for the Braves.
Valentine, who was a teammate of Ty Ronning of the Vancouver Giants during the U16
Cup three years ago, leads all Saanich scorers with three points in two games.
Fans who attended the Vancouver Canucks Alumni game last Sunday can get into
tonight’s game free of charge by showing their original ticket at the door.
In the other game, the Kerry Park Islanders (1-1-0-0) travel to Nanaimo to take on
the Buccaneers (1-0-0-0).
