Sept 12, 2014 (ISN) – Cheney, WA- The students at Eastern Washington University saw more than 60 minutes
of hockey, with Brandon Carlo scoring the overtime winner to give the Tri-City
Americans a 2-1 win over the Spokane Chiefs in Cheney.

The first period saw an 11-10 shot advantage for Spokane, but both goaltenders held
strong and were able to keep the game scoreless after one period.

In the second period, the tie was broken 4:11 into the period on the power play, as
Mitch Lipon found the back of the net to put Spokane up, 1-0. Tri-City was able to
tie the game midway through the period as Lucas Nickles scored with help from Ty
Comrie and Brendan O’Reilly. The Chiefs had the shot advantage in the period, 11-8,
but the game was tied going into the third period.

Both teams were looking for the winner in the third period, with the Americans
earning a 10-7 shot advantage. Neither team was able to light the lamp, sending the
game to overtime.

In the overtime period, the Americans had a power play off a double minor high
sticking penalty from Mitch Lipon on a faceoff, and Tri-City took advantage. Brandon
Carlo tallied the game winner 46 seconds into the extra hockey session to help the
Ams leave Cheney with a 2-1 win.
