Sept 13, 2014 (ISN) – EDMONTON, ALTA. – In less than a minute, the Edmonton Oil Kings got themselves back
into the game. In 19 seconds, they let it slip away.
Tied 2-2 late in the second, the Oil Kings gave up a pair of goals 19 seconds apart
en route to a 5-3 loss to the Red Deer Rebels in Red Deer Friday, wrapping up their
2014 WHL preseason schedule.
Brandon Ralph had two goals for Edmonton and Ben Carroll also scored as the Oil
Kings fell to 2-3-0-0 in the preseason.
Red Deer opened the scoring with a pair of goals in the first period from Jeff de
Wit and Meyer Nell before Carroll and Ralph popped two quick ones in the second to
knot it up.
However, a couple of defensive breakdowns late in the third led to Rebels goals from
Josh Mahura and Presten Kopeck just 19 seconds apart to restore the Red Deer lead.
Grayson Pawlenchuk added a power-play goal early in the third for the Rebels before
Ralph finished off the scoring with his second of the game.
Patrick Dea made 16 saves on 18 shots getting the start for the Oil Kings before
swapping midway through the game with Tyler Santos, who made 11 saves on 14 shots.
Taz Burman got the start in goal for Red Deer, stopping 18 of the 21 shots he faced.
The Oil Kings will next see action next Saturday, Sept. 20 when they open their
2014-15 regular season at home against the Kootenay Ice.
Edmonton will raise the 2013-14 WHL and Memorial Cup Championship banners to the
