Sept 14, 2014 (ISN) – PENZA, Russia – Ethan Pitman of Edmonton saved his best for last on Sunday at the
FINA World Junior Diving Championships finishing eighth on men’s 10-metre tower in
the 16-18 age group.
Tai Xiaohu led China to a 1-2 finish with 565.55 points. Li Ping’An was second at
538.50 and Kyle Kothari of Britain third at 536.00.
Pitman, who didn’t advance to the final in his other two events, produced a steady
performance on tower and finished with 478.20 points.
”In the final I was hoping to do a little better but I’m happy with the
performance,” said Pitman. ”I was happy with all my dives they were really
consistent but I could have had cleaner entries. The tower is my favorite event but
I certainly hope to improve on springboard as well.”
In the girls 14-15 three-metre, Caeli McKay of Calgary was 14th and Ashley McCool of
Cochrane, Alta., 17th.
”My event didn’t go as well as I hoped,” said McKay, fourth on one-metre, eighth
on platform and fifth on three-metre synchro with McCool earlier this week. ”Going
in I was a little bit tired and having trouble focusing on my dives. I tried to
fight through it but I’m a little disappointed because I need to learn to compete
better under difficult circumstances.”
Canada ends the competition without a medal but did reach seven finals which was
superior than in 2012
Competition ends Sunday.
