Lions bite Martlets, halt McGill’s field girls undefeated streak at two


TORONTO — Morgan Surajram connected on a corner in the 42nd minute and goaltender Shanelle Fernando posted a shutout as the host York University Lions blanked McGill 1-0 in OUA women’s field hockey, Sunday afternoon.

‘Keeper Marianne Emler was saddled with the loss for McGIll, which finished their long road trip with a respectable 1-1-1 record.

The third-place Martlets will head back down Highway 401 next weekend when they play in the second league tourney of the season, at Kingston, Sept. 20-21. the will meet division-leading Toronto (3-0) on Saturday, followed by Sunday games against Guelph (1-0) and Queen’s (1-1).
