Golden Bears defenceman off to NHL training camp

EDMONTON – Fourth-year University of Alberta Golden Bearsdefenceman Jordan Rowley will attend the Edmonton Oilers’main training camp, beginning on September 18th, after receiving aninvite from the NHL club.

Rowley will first suit up the for the Bears on Wednesday,September 17th in their annual game against the Edmonton Oilerrookies, and then will trade his Evergreen and Gold sweater for the blue and orange of the Oilers the next day at RexallPlace.

The Edmonton born and raised defenceman is coming off a breakoutseason for the CIS champion Golden Bears in which he won the Mervyn“Red” Dutton Trophy as the Canada West defenceman ofthe year, as well as CIS first team all-Canadian status. Rowleypicked up 30 points last season, which was tops amongst Canada Westdefenceman, and he has collected 49 points in his CIS career todate.

Prior to playing for the U of A, Rowley patrolled the blue linewith Kamloops Blazers and Prince Albert Raider, and in 310 WHLgames the right-handed offensive defenceman tallied 146 points,including a 50-point campaign for the Raiders in 2009-10.
