Sept 15, 2014 (ISN) – Brandon, MB. — With the curtain set to go up on
the Brandon Wheat Kings 2014-15 regular season later this week, the Western
Hockey League club has announced that 15-year old prospect Stelio Mattheos has been
assigned to the Winnipeg AAA Midget Wild.
The first overall selection in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft in Calgary, Mattheos
appeared in three of the Wheat Kings four pre-season games – registering two
assists and one minor penalty.
The 6’1 175 lb Winnipeg product scored 53 goals and 103 points in 32
games for the Winnipeg AAA Bantam Monarchs in 2013-14.
Monday’s decision by Wheat Kings coach and general manager Kelly McCrimmon leaves
with twenty-nine players on its pre-season roster, including six veterans that
are currently attending National Hockey League training camps.
Of the 29, there are seventeen forwards, ten defencemen and two goalkeepers –
one of which is 18-year old Jordan Papirny
– who begins the week with the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens.

In other Wheat Kings’ news, the club has announced that over 2,300 season
tickets have been sold for the upcoming season. 2,312 have been sold to this
point, which represents an improvement over this time last season.
Brandon averaged over 3,500 fans per home game in 2013-14 and sold 2,357 season
