Three rookies headline Washington-bound Vikes golf roster

Sept 17, 2014 (ISN) – VICTORIA, B.C. – The University of Victoria Vikes men’s golf team will be travelling
south for their second tournament of the season, the Saint Martin’s Invitational,
hosted in Lacey, Wash. from Sept. 19-20. Three of the five Vikes competing at the
tournament are in their first-year including Lawren Rowe, Andrew Funke and Michael

Head coach Justin Clews will be sending assistant coach David Rands to Washington to
coach the team.

“I think the team will have a successful event,” said Clews. “We are taking four out
of the five guys from our last week’s tournament in Colorado with the addition of
first-year Michael Griffin. It is a young team but I’m very confident in them.”

Rookie and Mount Douglas Secondary grad Griffin will get his first taste of
competition in a Vikes uniform and will be joined by fellow rookies Funk and Rowe,
as well as second-year Bruce Tomie and third-year Alex Cartwright.

Rowe led the Vikes with an individual third-place finish last weekend at the Wolf
Pack Invitational, where he shot shot eight under par in his first tournament with
the Vikes to help the men clinch a second place team finish.

The two-day Saint Martin’s Invitational tournament tees off on Sept. 19 with 36
holes of play and another 18 holes on Sept. 20. The tournament will be hosted at the
Olympia Golf and Country Club.
