Sept 18,2014(ISN) – Duncan, BC – The Cowichan Capitals are pleased to announce Kyle Horsman, Jesse Neher, Rylan Bechtel, and Thomas Gobeil as the team captains for the 2014-15 BCHL season.
“We’re very pleased with our group of captains, this is an extremely strong leadership group,” said Head Coach and General Manager Bob Beatty.
Now in his third BCHL season, 20 year-old Horsman will wear the “C” for the second year with the Capitals.
“I’m very happy to be back as captain for a second year with the Capitals,” said Horsman.
“I feel like I’ve learned a lot from my first season and there’s a great support system with our alternates. It’s a good feeling to know other guys who don’t have a letter on their jersey aren’t afraid to step up and be a leader as well. We have a talented group this year and we’re expecting big things from each other.”
Neher is also entering his final season in the BCHL and with over 170 games under his belt over the past three years, the Fort St. John native is coming off his most productive season.
Entering his third season in the league, 19 year-old Bechtel is the lone returning defenceman from last year’s Capitals squad and the Chilliwack native is also coming off his best season to date.
Joining the three returning players in the leadership group, the veteran Gobeil played the past three seasons in the QMJHL and brings plenty of experience and natural leadership qualities to compliment his on-ice skill and grit.
“Our team has good chemistry with great veteran support and leadership among players both with and without letters on their jerseys,” added Beatty.
The Capitals open up the regular season this Friday afternoon at the Bauer BCHL Showcase taking on the Vernon Vipers at 3:30pm. The Caps will then face the Merritt Centennials Saturday morning at 11:30. Both games will be available live on 89.7 The Juice and FAST Hockey.
