Sept 18,2014(ISN) – Duncan, BC – The Cowichan Capitals have acquired 19 year-old goaltender Matthew Zentner from the Camrose Kodiaks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League in exchange for future considerations.

The 6’0″, 195 pound native of Red Deer appeared in 26 games with the Kodiaks last season.

“Matt has good size and is technically sound with good athletic ability,” said Head Coach and General Manager Bob Beatty.

Prior to his rookie junior season, Zentner backstopped his hometown Red Deer Midget AAA squad to back-to-back national championships.

“Matt has a history of winning with his two Telus Cup titles and now a year of junior experience under his belt. His experience will be a boost for our club between the pipes,” added Beatty.

Zentner will travel with the Capitals to this weekend’s Bauer BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack along with fellow netminder Lane Michasiw. The Caps open up the regular season Friday afternoon at 3:30 taking on the Vernon Vipers and can be heard live on The New 89.7 Juice FM.
