UBC draws in Kelowna


VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds women’s soccer team tied the UBC Okanagan Heat 1-1 at Nonis Field in Kelowna, B.C., tonight in Canada West regular season action.


Second-year forward Jasmin Dhanda scored her fifth goal of the season with an assist from Reetu Johal in the 56th minute of the game to give her UBC team a 1-0.

Shortly after however, UBCO followed up with an equalizer from Hayley Carlson, who scored off of a penalty shot in the 75th minute.

UBC goalkeeper Emily Wilson gave a solid performance for her fifth start of the season, making eights saves throughout the course of the game.

The first half of the game was closely contested, with both sides getting seven shots on goal without scoring. By game’s end, the shots on goal were 17-10 in favour of the Thunderbirds.

UBC (3-2-1) will enjoy a bye week before returning to action on Oct. 3 against Thompson Rivers University (0-4) at 7 p.m. on David Sidoo Field at Thunderbird Stadium.
