SPARTANS LOSE TO EASTERN WASHINGTON IN CASTLEGAR
Sept 20,2014(ISN) – CASTLECAR, British Columbia – The Trinity Western men’s hockey lost 5-2 to Eastern Washington in a neutral site preseason game against the Eagles Saturday at the Castlegar Recreation Centre.
The Spartans trailed 1-0 after the first period and then found themselves down 3-0 after the second. The teams each scored a pair of goals in the third, but the Eagles held off any sort of Spartans rally.
Despite TWU outshooting the Eagles, the Spartans were stymied time and time again by the EWU netminder.
Trinity Western is now 1-2 in preseason.
“Eastern Washington is a much improved team and they’re very skilled and very talented,” said Spartans coach Barret Kropf. “Their goaltender is very strong and had a great performance. Our guys played much better than last night (when TWU lost 9-0 to Selkirk), so it was good to see them bounce back that way and it was good to get some offence generated. Overall, we learned a lot this weekend and we’ll go from there.”
The Spartans had two power play opportunities to EWU’s seven.
Trinity Western will now prepare to open its BCIHL regular season schedule next weekend when the Spartans are in Victoria to play the Vikes Sept. 26-27.
