Bill Meltzer: Stars Preseason Gameday: 9/22/14 Vs. Blues

The Dallas Stars kick off their six-game 2014 preseason schedule tonight with a game at the American Airlines Center against Ken Hitchcock’s St. Louis Blues. Game time at the AAC is 7:30 p.m. CDT.

Yesterday, Stars head coach Lindy Ruff indicated to the Dallas media covering training camp that he wanted to get a look at a lot of different players between tonight’s game and Wednesday night’s road match against the Florida Panthers.

According to the Stars’ official website, it appears that Jason Spezza and Alex Hemsky will make their Stars preseason debuts tonight. Team captain Jamie Benn and top line center Tyler Seguin are more likely to play on Wednesday. Defenseman Sergei Gonchar, who was expected to play Monday, is probably out after getting hit in the ear during Sunday’s scrimmage.

Yesterday, the Stars held a Team Green vs. Team White scrimmage in Fort Worth. It was the final of three scrimmages over successive days. Team Green won yesterday’s scrimmage 4-3 via shootout, with Spezza scoring the winning goal against Anders Lindbäck. In regulation, Team Green got goals from Travis Morin, Radek Faksa and Brendan Ranford. For Team White, Seguin notched a pair of goals, while Patrick Eaves also tallied.

The lineups that appeared in yesterday’s scrimmage were as follows:

Jamie Benn – Tyler Seguin – Ryan Garbutt

Patrick Eaves – Justin Dowling – Erik Cole

Shawn Horcoff – Vernon Fiddler – Matej Stransky

John Klingberg- Patrik Nemeth

Sergei Gonchar/Cameron Gaunce – Kevin Connauton

Kari Lehtonen

Anders Lindback

Antoine Roussel – Jason Spezza – Ales Hemsky

Curtis McKenzie – Travis Morin – Brendan Ranford

Gemel Smith – Radek Faksa – Scott Glennie

Jyrki Jokipakka – Julius Honka

Jamie Oleksiak/Derek Meech – Maxime Fortunus

Jussi Rynnas

Jack Campbell

Veteran defenseman Gonchar got struck with a puck during yesterday’s scrimmage. He is OK but will reportedly be held out of tonight’s game against the Blues.
