BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Alabama won’t need to rush injured Blake Sims back to practice this week, as the Tide has an open date Saturday and won’t play again until Oct. 4 at Ole Miss.

Sims said after Saturday’s win against Florida that he suffered a bruised AC joint. Before Alabama head coach Nick Saban spoke to the Monday Morning Quarterback Club in Birmingham on Monday, he said Sims is “fine” and probably will “take it easy” for a couple of days.

Alabama took Monday off and is scheduled to practice today.

Saban compared Sims’ injury to the one former Tide quarterback AJ McCarron suffered last season. McCarron didn’t miss any game time.

“I would say it’s similar to AJ’s situation last year where we took a few days where he practiced but didn’t throw much, then started putting him on a pitch count and bringing him back,” Saban said. “But having a bye week this week is probably a good thing from the perspective.”
