Soccer Weekend in Victoria


Sept 24, 2014 (ISN) -Victoria BC, United Football, which consists of the Lower Island Soccer

Association (LISA), Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL) and the Lower Island

Soccer Association (LIWSA) are hosting a community soccer showcase on September 27th

and September 28th at Westhills Stadium in Langford. Some of the best soccer the island

has to offer will be on display as top teams from the VISL, LISA and LIWSA will all
be taking

the pitch.

“Showcasing the VISL, LIWSA and LISA all at one venue will create an amazing

and we are really excited to bring all of the Island’s soccer fans together,” said

Brodsgaard. “The soccer community is vibrant here on the island and this is a
weekend not

to be missed as fans will be able to watch U6-U9 future stars, top men’s and women’s

as well as some of the province’s best youth soccer all at Westhills Stadium.”

Amongst other off field activations, United Football has also arranged for the BC

Giant Jersey to be on hand on Saturday. The BC Soccer Giant Jersey is a 20 foot

Jersey which has travelled across the province helping promote the FIFA Women’s World

Cup Canada 2015. Players, coaches, parents, and spectators are encouraged to sign the

jersey wishing the Canada Women’s National Team good luck in 2015.

All matches will take place at Westhills Stadium in Langford and the weekend’s game

schedule will be as follows:


9:00 Juan de Fuca Mini Program (U6-U9)

12:00 VISL Division 1 Men: Cowichan FC vs Vic West FC

14:15 LIWSA Women’s Premier League: Prospect Lake Lakers vs Lakehill


10:00 LIWSA Division 1 Women: Vic West FC vs Gorge

12:00 EA Sports BC Soccer Premier League: Vancouver Island Girls U15 Wave vs Surrey


14:15 VISL Division 1 Men: Saanich Fusion FC vs Bays United FC Liquor Plus

Specific Information on Teams:

U15 Vancouver Island Wave Girls team is the current provincial champion and they
play in

the EA Sports BC Premier League. Their opponents this Sunday are Surrey United who

they beat in the provincial final last year.

Prospect Lake Lakers from LIWSA Premier Women’s Division are last year’s league

winners and Terry Price Cup Champions. They take on Lakehill at 2:15pm Saturday.

Gorge FC and Vic West from LIWSA Division 1 will play each other on Sunday. They both

represented LIWSA in the Provincial B Cup last season.

On the Men’s side, the four teams representing VISL Division 1 are the top four
teams from

last season. Saanich Fusion won both the league and the Jackson Cup last season,

placed second in the league and was the Jackson Cup finalist, Bays United FC Liquor

third, and Vic West FC placed fourth. All teams represented the island in the
Provincial A
