SPARTANS DROP FIRST MATCH OF SEASON TO PANDAS

LANGLEY, British Columbia – In their third match of the season the Trinity Western University women’s volleyball team was handed their first loss of the year as the University of Alberta Pandas had the better of the Spartans winning 25-14, 22-25, 25-19 and 25-13.

“I thought we scrambled well tonight. I think we learned another level of defence and what it is going to take defensively. We need to continue to learn how to score. Learning how to find a variety of shots and basically finding a way to get the ball to the floor,” commented TWU head coach Ryan Hofer. “Alberta played great defence tonight and they put us in a lot of trouble defensively as well. We have to go and figure out our block a little bit and then find ways to score.”

“This is a weekend of finding out what our lineup is going to look like. So we have been mixing it up from game to game and giving a group a chance to go out there play free and go at it. We are just figuring out who are team is and what we can do. “

Next up for the Spartans, who are 2-1 in the Westcoast Classic, are the University of Regina and the University of British Columbia. Both matches are at UBC’s War Memorial Gym.

Trinity Western opens up Canada West conference play next Friday-Saturday when they will host the Thompson Rivers University.
