VANCOUVER – UBC’s women’s hockey team (1-0-1) will head to Calgary this weekend for a double-header against Mount Royal University (1-1-0). Friday’s game will start at 6:00 p.m. P.T.,and the two teams will lace up again for a 2:00 p.m. P.T. matinée on Saturday at the same location.
The Thunderbirds opened the season last week with a 2-1 overtime loss followed by a 2-0 victory against defending Canada West champions, University of Saskatchewan. The team is expecting to build on their performances from the home-opening weekend.
Last season UBC was a perfect 4-0 against the Cougars winning 4-1, 4-2, 3-2, and 4-1.
The Thunderbirds will be looking to fifth-year captain Sarah Casorso to continue her excellent start to the season this weekend. The 2014 CIS First Team All-Canadian already has two goals under her belt from as many games, and will be back in action along with the rest of her team. Goaltender Samantha Langford is coming off her second career regular season shutout in Saturday’s 2-0 victory. Look for her to split the weekend duties with Danielle Lemon once again.
MRU is also coming off a win/loss weekend, as they were downed 3-2 by the University of Calgary last Friday, but rallied considerably for their Saturday effort and beat the Dinos 2-1 in a dramatic overtime win.
The puck drops at 6:00 p.m. P.T. on Friday at the Flames Community Arenas in Calgary.
Both games will be streamed live at CanadaWest.TV.
