Calgary South West United Millennium Rebecca Morgan x2, Caleigh Boeckx x2
In the end, it was decisive… Calgary South West United Millennium booked their place in tomorrow’s gold medal game against Stoney Creek Battalion of Ontario with a comfortable 4:0 win over RC United from Prince Edward Island, with Rebecca Morgan and Caleigh Boeckx both scoring twice in the first half.
Any jitters the Alberta girls may have had before this must-win game were banished within 40 seconds, as Morgan found herself unmarked just inside the penalty area, and she finished without hesitation to set Calgary on their way.
PE had no answer to the quick-thinking Calgary forwards and when Boeckx finished coolly after a neat one-two with Aimee Tiemstra, after nine minutes, the game was over. Boeckx added an almost identical goal ten minutes later, and Morgan scored the fourth just before half-time to complete the scoring.
In the second half coach Goran Buconjic rested his star strikers and despite continuous pressure and possession, the scored stayed 4:0.
“The early goal settled the nerves and after that we played with great confidence and control,” said Buconjic after the game. “It should be a great final between two good teams. Our girls are excited and we will be ready to go.”
Monday’s final will kick-off at 10.00 local / 09.00 ET / 06.00 PT at UPEI. Cornwall will host the bronze medal game between Lakeshore SC of Quebec and Halifax County United of Nova Scotia, kick-off 09.00 local / 08.00 ET / 05.00PT.
