On the fourth day of the Sport Chek National Club Championships U-18 Girls Cup, the Winsloe-Charlottetown Royals FC of Prince Edward Island, and QCT United of Saskatchewan, battled to a 2:2 draw with each team collecting their first point of the competition.
Dressed in all blue, the Royals FC were quick out of the gate, taking a two goal lead within the first six minutes of play. Striker, Emma Clark put her side up after only the second minute as her attempt towards goal eluded the QCT United keeper who appeared to lose her footing on a slick surface that absorbs a significant amount of water after an early morning downpour. Danielle Younker would add to the Royals FC’s lead only four minutes later as she found the ball at her feet at the penalty spot and snapped a shot towards goal that found the bottom left corner.
After a shaky start to the match, QCT United’s team settled into the game and responded to the early deficit with a goal of their own in the 24th minute after Samantha Burko’s left-footed shot found the top corner. Burko was the beneficiary of a half-cleared ball from a corner kick that only made its way to the penalty spot.
QCT United would find the tying goal five minutes later as striker Sydney Langen shielded the ball well inside the box before dancing past two defenders and finishing the play to the bottom right corner.
Despite swapping chances in the second half, neither team was able to come up with the game winner to secure a first victory in Group A play.
Both side are back in action tomorrow at 11:15 PT / 14:15 ET as QCT Unidad kicks-off against the hosts, Coastal FC, while Royals FC play the group leaders North Mississauga Panthers from Ontario.
