MONTREAL — Jullien Flynn of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., and Ryan Kramer of New Vernon, N.J. are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Oct. 12, 2014.
Flynn, a 5-foot-1, distance runner with the cross-country Martlets, captured the women’s division of the St. Francis Xavier University’s Invitational interlocking meet in Antigonish, N.S., on Saturday. The 21-year-old biology senior was tops among the 95 women entered, completing the six-kilometre course in 21 minutes, 40 seconds. She finished 17 seconds ahead of the next closest competitor and became the first McGill runner to win a cross-country meet in almost two years, dating back a dozen races to Oct. 27, 2012. Prior to enrolling at McGill, she graduated from St. Basil secondary school.

Kramer, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound pitcher, struck out 12 batters, while scattering three hits and walking just one as McGill blanked visiting Carleton 3-0 to open the Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association Northern Division playoffs, Saturday, at Gary Carter Field in Trudeau Park. The 22-year-old right-hander pitched a stellar  seven-inning complete-game shutout that required 100 pitches. He transferred to McGill this year from the NCAA’s Dickinson College.
Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
