The Dallas Stars (0-1-1) will look for their first win of the 2014-15 regular season when they pay a visit to the Columbus Blue Jackets (2-0-0). Game time is 6:00 PM EDT. The game will be televised locally on Fox Sports Southwest.
Dallas is coming off a subpar all-around performance in a 4-1 loss in Nashville on Saturday night.
Columbus downed the New York Rangers, 5-2, the same night.
On the Stars’ injury front, Valeri Nichushkin (groin/hip flexor) is out for tonight’s game. The second-year forward left Monday’s practice early. Cody Eakin may skate on the top line with Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn in Nichushkin’s place. The team has also recalled winger Curtis McKenzie from the AHL’s Texas Stars. Veteran defenseman Sergei Gonchar (ankle) remains out of the lineup.
With Eakin moving from third line center to first line right wing, Vernon Fiddler skated in his place at the team’s practice yesterday. Fiddler was flanked by Antoine Roussel and Ryan Garbutt. The rest of lineup saw Jason Spezza center Patrick Eaves and Ales Hemsky on the second line and Shawn Horcoff center Erik Cole and Colton Sceviour on the fourth line.
Anders Lindbäck got the start for the Stars in Nashville. Kari Lehtonen will return to the net tonight.
Columbus is coming off a strong and balanced performance against the Rangers, grabbing an early lead and keeping their foot on the gas pedal. The top line trio of Ryan Johansen, Nick Foligno and Cam Atkinson all scored goals.
On the injury front for the Blue Jackets, forward Brian Gibbons (lower body) is day-to-day. In the meantime, Boone Jenner (broken hand), Brandon Dubinsky (abdominal), Nathan Horton (back) and defenseman Ryan Murray (lower body) are all unavailable.
