Weather conditions had improved immensely on the final day of the 2014 Sport Chek National Club Championships U-16 Boys Cup competition. With the skies breaking overnight and the sun coming out in the morning, it made for some pretty perfect playing conditions when the championship game kicked-off.

The only item that the West Toronto Cobras, from Ontario, and the Coquitlam Metro-Ford SC, from British Columbia, would have to worry about is a cool wind, and each other.

West Toronto came out strong and almost netted the first goal of the match in the second minute when they got a ball behind the keeper but center back Lucas McIlveen was there with the impressive goal line stand.

As in the Girls championships game, both teams played defensive, keeping the majority of the play in the center of the pitch and trying to send their forwards down the wings.

A full 80 minutes would go by and both teams had yet to get put anything up on the board. This would lead to two 15-minute halves of extra time.

The team from Coquitlam, wouldn’t waste any more time by getting the first goal of the contest in the 89th minute when the speedy, Devon Jones would make a great run down the right wing and feed a ball to Matteo Polisi who then dished it to Nathaniel Trampleasure at the top of the 18 and drilled a ball that skipped off the turf and over the West Toronto keeper in the goal.

Coquitlam would continue to apply pressure, causing West Toronto to make a goal-line stand only three minutes later, which resulted in Coquitlam winning a corner. Polisi and Jones connected again when Polisi’s corner was hit far post where Jones delivered a beautiful header to the back of the net. This goal would become the game winner and secure the Golden Boot for Jones.

West Toronto would come within one in the 108th minute when right back Adam Giorgio would hit a stunner of a free kick, curving the ball around the wall to the top left corner of the goal. It would be too little too later for the West Toronto team, as Coquitlam would take the contest 2:1 and keep the Sport Chek National Club Championships U-16 Cup in British Columbia for another year.
