Heat women golfers off to 2014 PING CCAA Golf National Championship


UBC Okanagan look to score their third national medal in six years this Wed-Fri in Quebec.

Teeing off early Wednesday morning the UBC Okanagan Heat women’s golf team will attempt to medal for the fourth time in six years at the PING CCAA national championships which take place Oct 14-17 at the Club de Golf Lorette in Quebec, Qc.

For the second straight year, the tournament will be hosted by Champlain College St. Lawrence.

Carolyn Lee the top golfer for UBC Okanagan in 2014 was honoured as an All Canadian at the awards banquet Tuesday evening, will be the first to tee off for the Heat as she is scheduled to hit the links at 6:30 a.m. (PDT), with Emily Adams (6:40 a.m.) and Jessica Kozak (6:50 a.m.) each getting started 10 minutes later and all will start on the 10th hole. The tournament will span three consecutive days and 54 holes to decide a champion.

The last time UBC Okanagan qualified for the tournament they finished as national champions in 2012, Jessica Kozak is the lone member of the national champion team on this year’s threesome. The Heat earned silver medals in 2009 and in 2010.

UBC Okanagan qualified for the national championships after finishing as the silver medalists on the PACWEST tour, finishing second in all four conference tournaments.

The Heat finished second to the Fraser Valley Cascades in all four tournaments and are the only other representative from BC at the three day event. The Cascades’ Jen Woods was named an All Canadian at the banquet as well on Tuesday night.
