I find that taking things out of the gallery, and changing things up occasionally allows me to expose my art, and art in general, to a whole new segment of the population that may never have visited a gallery. It is a social experiment of sorts and makes for very different conversation than I would have in a traditional gallery environment. Perhaps it stems from my sensitive competitive side and growing up being exposed to both art and sport, equally.
After spending the past four years showing my work in Edmonton and Calgary, I am pleased to share a Victoria exclusive retrospective of some of the most celebrated paintings that took my art career from local, to national on the art scene. #ICONICCANUCK is a series of paintings, and mixed media assemblage, inspired by Canadian culture and iconography. They are ‘Canadianisms on canvas’ – my love letter of sorts to Canada. These pieces have been featured in museums, art galleries and corporations in Alberta, Toronto, Quebec and British Columbia, and now I am happy to bring a select group together for an exclusive showing in Victoria. The entire collection now includes over 40 paintings, and a dozen mixed media and collage works. Taking icons of hockey and juxtaposing them against art history was not only the inception of this series, but has become the core of my commentary on being a ‘Canuck’.
