Bronte Fitzsimmons

Vancouver Island University Mariners
Women’s Soccer
October 15 – Bronte Fitzsimmons (3rd year, Oak Bay Sec., Victoria) helped the Mariners (10-1-2) pick up two big wins last weekend. Saturday against the Langara Falcons, Fitzsimmons was the dominant player, creating a number of quality chances for herself and her teammates. In the 88th minute she scored the only goal of the game, beating a couple defenders and calmly slotting the ball past the Falcons keeper for a 1-0 win. On Sunday versus the Capilano University Blues, the third-year player opened the scoring in the 15th minute on a breakaway. Capilano came back to tie the game, but midway through the second half a beautiful Fitzsimmons cross found Samantha Rodgers who beat the Blues goalie for the game winner. Fitzsimmons would also play a big part in the build-up for the third Mariners goal in the 3-1 win. The six points put the Mariners on top of the PacWest standings with 31 points, six clear of Douglas College in second place with two matches left. Fitzsimmons was previously Athlete of the Week in Week 3.
