LaSalle are proud to announce Bob Boughner as the Honourary Chairperson for the 2016 CARHA Hockey
World Cup (@CHWorldCup).
Boughner, a native of the Windsor area, is a retired professional hockey player who currently serves as
the President and Head Coach for the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League. Boughner’s NHL
career began with the Buffalo Sabres in 1995 and spanned over 10 years playing for Nashville, Pittsburgh,
Calgary, Carolina and Colorado. Over his career, Boughner gained the reputation of an NHL enforcer
receiving more than 1350 penalty minutes and earning the nickname “The Boogeyman”. Before retiring
from professional hockey, Boughner also served as the Executive Vice-President of the NHLPA Players
Association from 2003 through 2006. After retirement, Boughner returned to the city of Windsor
heading an ownership group that purchased the Spitfires in February of 2006. Immediately, Boughner
and his team were able to revitalize the junior hockey community within the City of Windsor and win
back to back MasterCard Memorial Cup Championships in the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 seasons.
“With world-class venues and facilities, our region is the perfect location for this event” Boughner
mentioned when asked how Windsor will react to hosting such a large event. “Rest assured, we are
more than ready to host 120 teams from over 15 countries. But above all, you will find that this
community’s generous hospitality, friendliness and sheer enthusiasm are what truly set it apart. And, of
course, our passion for the game cannot be overestimated. Beyond the honour of hosting this week of
incredible hockey, this is ultimately a celebration of great sportsmanship and the game that we all love.”
“Bob is a cornerstone of the hockey community in Windsor” stated Reuben Greenspoon, Coordinator of
the 2016 CARHA Hockey World Cup. “With his fantastic work within the Spitfires organization as well as
his constant approach to growing the game of hockey in Windsor, we truly believe that Bob is a perfect
fit for this event” said Greenspoon who went on to elaborate on some of Boughner’s responsibilities. “In
addition to attending marquee events such as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, you can expect Bob
to be present throughout the week at the arenas as well as within the community.”
Boughner joins the likes of past Honourary Chairs such as Peter Stastny, Guy Lafleur and Phil Esposito
who showed their support towards the event. For more information on Boughner as well as the CARHA
