Vancouver, BC – UBC men’s hockey is back in action at Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre this weekend as they host the University of Lethbridge. Both Friday and Saturday night’s games begin at 7:00 pm.
The UBC Thunderbirds are 2-2-2 on the season, and will look to gain ground in the competitive Canada West standings this weekend against the Lethbridge Pronghorns.
The Thunderbirds, currently sixth in Canada West, sit two points behind the mass of teams tied for third in the conference, and only four points behind the teams tied for first. This weekend will be important for the Thunderbirds to stay within striking distance of the top spots in the conference. Heading into the weekend, UBC remains the only team to have defeated the nation’s top ranked team in Alberta.
Rookie Adam Rossignol leads UBC with three goals and two assists, while defenseman Neil Manning boasts a plus-five rating to go with his four assists through six games this season. Last years leading scorer for the Thunderbirds in Cole Wilson has two goals and one assist thus far.
Matt Hewitt has played four games between the pipes for the Thunderbirds this season, while Eric Williams has started the other two games. Hewitt has a 0.912 save percentage, with a goals-against average of 2.48 per game – good for ninth in the league.
The Lethbridge Pronghorns have yet to break the ice in the win column, as they are 0-6-0 thus far.
Goaltenders Dylan Tait and Damien Ketio have split time for the Pronghorns, and have a combined 25 goals-against through six games. Defenseman Tim Campell leads the team in points with two goals and one assist.
UBC’s Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre will host the Friday and Saturday games, both beginning at 7:00 pm.
