(ISN) – VICTORIA, B.C. – This weekend, Oct. 8, the University of Victoria Vikes men’s rugby team will host their first home game of the CDI premier league against the Castaway Wanderers. This will be the team’s second league game and it will take place at 2:45 p.m. at Wallace Field.
“I’m foreseeing a very physical game with these weather conditions,” said head coach Doug Tate, who is expecting heavy rain fall on Saturday.
Key Vikes expected to make an impact include fifth-year eightman Dustin Dobravsky and veteran centre Doug Fraser, as well as captain and centre Remi Anctil who is returning from injury.
“Both teams have some guys pulled out of the game to play for Canada this weekend,” said Tate, “we’re both affected, but our team still have good depth”.
Vikes who are competing for Canada currently include Jamie Mackenzie, Patrick Kay and Guiseppe du Toit.
The Vikes opened their season with a 2-1 record in the Barnard Cup series, and are set to host the final later in November. To open their CDI premier season, the Vikes defeated James Bay Athletic Association, 27-19, to currently hold a 1-0 record. The Castaways are currently winless, after their opening loss to UBC, 26-17.
The Vikes and Castaways will kick off at 2:45 p.m. at Wallace Field.
