Texas A&M-Kingsville fires football coach David Calloway after 1-5 start

KINGSVILLE, Texas — Texas A&M-Kingsville has fired football coach David Calloway after leading the Javelinas to a 1-5 record midway through his second season.

Scott Gines, the university’s vice president for athletics, says he informed Calloway of his decision Monday afternoon and turned the team over to offensive line coach Jaime (HYE’-may) Martinez on an interim basis. Meanwhile, Gines says the university will conduct a national search for a new coach.

The Javelinas were winless in four Lone Star Conference games this season after going 2-8 overall last season, including a winless record in six conference games.
